Ep. 212 – Clear Embellishments

Scrap TIme - Ep. 212 - Clear Embellishments

Clear embellishments is a hot, current trend in scrapbooking and card making. I am showing you some clear embellishments from Clear Scraps, Heidi Swapp and Fancy pants. Some people may not use these embellishments because they don’t know what to do with them. So I am demonstrating some simple techniques for altering the clear embellishments. I will be showing you a couple ways to use Stickles; using rub-ons; stamping; using alcohol inks; covering in beads; and using glitter. All these techniques are quick (if you don’t count the Stickles dry time) and very pretty!!! So if you have some clear embellishments, get them out and decorate them!!! As well, all of these techniques can be used on Clear albums as well!!

Not sure if it wa just me but I had a problem with both the podcast and the quicktime version of this episode. It would get stuck and just stutter and I tried moving past it and got only a green screen. This is the first scraptime episode I’ve ever had this problem with and the embedded player on the website worked fine so I was able to watch it. Thanks for providing the multiple options.

Great episode! One other thing is that you can make your own clear embellishments with transparencies. For example, I made butterflies similar to the Heidi Swapp ones by stamping a butterfly on the transparency and then cutting it out with scissors. I used an inkjet transparency and got away with using regular pigment ink to stamp the image. It didn’t stay on when I tried to cover it with stickles though, I think you need the stazon for that. 🙂

Great podcast! Well done. Some other things that work great on Clear Scraps acrylic are: Paint (my personal favourite!), Sharpies or American Craft Slick Writers for doodling/journaling, heat embossing (careful to keep the heat moving), and other non-solid embellishments that you can see partly through – Magic Mesh, Queen & Co. Felt Fusions..etc.
