I decided to start taking Yoga at the beginning of September. I hadn’t taken a Yoga class for about 11 years. I signed up for a 2 month pass thinking I would go twice a week. The studio offered classes all day long. My plan was to go at 9:30am after dropping off Gemma at school.
I went the first week and took a Hatha Class. I wanted to strengthen and tone my muscles. The first class wasn’t too bad. We spent most of it on our backs stretching different body parts. I was still sore afterwards.
The following week I took the same class and it was completely different! Lots of Downward Dogs and Planks.
The following week I wanted to try a Flow Class, but the teacher was sick, so I ended up in a Vinyasa Class. O.M.G. Talk about a work out! Downward Dog, Plank, Cobra, repeat!! Standing on 1 foot. Different versions of the Warrior. There came a time I just stopped for a moment.
So last week I took the Flow Class – classified as Gentle. It was basically a slightly toned down class from the Vinyasa. There was one guy who spent the last 15 minutes lying peacefully.
So what’s my point? My point is I don’t really like Yoga. I see the benefits of Yoga but I don’t enjoy going. I still have this month on my pass, but it’s not something I look forward to doing. I am walking all over the city these days (last week I covered 68km) so I am active. I may try to go to 1 more class that I haven’t tried yet- the Hatha Flow, but I don’t think I will be renewing my membership. I really wanted to like Yoga, but I don’t.
However, if you do like Yoga, the Yoga Space is a great place with fabulous teachers!!
