Ep. 805 – Crafter’s Workshop Templates with a Gelli Arts Printing Plate

Scrap Time - Ep. 805 - CW Templates & the Gelli Arts Printing Plate

When we did a Make ‘n’ Take with Julie Fein-Fan Balzer at CHA, she introduced me to the Gelli Arts Printing Plate! I was intrigued, so I went out and bought one to play with! In this video I show you what I made and how you can use the Gelli Arts Printing Plate with your Crafter’s Workshop templates!

The following are some photos I took while I was creating the layers on my projects!

3rd layer.

The 4th layer was applied using the stencils and paint directly. I didn’t use the plate this time.

The 5th layer is spraying Dylusions sprays over the page to fill in the white spots. The acrylic paint resists the sprays.

While I was making the art journal page, I was also making prints on a piece of paper.

Thanks for the great video, I’d heard about this product, but couldn’t figure out how it worked. I love the results you got, your backgrounds & tags are terrific.

Again, so interesting. Thank you :)
    QUESTIONS:
Did you ever “tell us” what you are using as your art journal? I tried a few and the designs show through the pages. Yours do not seem to do that.
What do you/will you do with your Journal? Do you sometimes cut pieces to use on your pages ?
Do you keep notes of which products you used on each page ???

I use a variety of journals but the one in the video is the Canson Watercolour Paper books, with the coil binding. I like the thickness of the watercolour paper, especially when I am using a lot of wet mediums like the sprays. I also like the coil bindings so I can add embellishments on some of the pages.

I just keep my journals as they are. I will sometimes go back and finish off a page, and sometimes I just leave the background. It is a book for me to play in without it needing a purpose. I like to look through them at all the different pages I created. I never cut them up.

I don’t take notes, but I can usually look at a page and remember how I did something (or go back and watch the video). If you are using your journal as a testing book, you may want to make notes.

Thank you for the video. Love this technique. You showed it beautifully. Think I may have to go do some shopping. I am working in a book where I play in it. I use these play pages as leaping off points for memory keeping pages. I should be doing second pages as well to keep as a technique book. Easy to write somewhere on the space or back of page what products were used to get the effects.

I am wondering if you have tried the metal stencils (i.e, Dreamweaver) on this plate. I have a few larger ones that I like to work with, just wondering if you have tried it. Thanks, Amy

I haven’t tried the metal stencils. They should work. You just want to be sure you burnish your paper into the opening areas so the paint can be transferred.

Thanks for the great video. I love the TCW stencils. I have been trying to figure out better how to layer them. I was also wondering what the Gelli Plate looked like. Thanks for sharing.

Question, could you not burnish your paper with a brayer? Or would that not give the right amount of pressure. just wondering. thanks again for a great video.
