Today I am taking part in Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s Stencil Hop!! I am playing with the Wedding Ring Template that she designed for The Crafter’s Workshop! The template comes in 12″x12″ and 6″x6″. I am showing you how to do an acrylic paint resist!
I started by using acrylic paints with the Wedding Ring Template. I like to use Claudine Hellmuth’s paints for this technique since they are a little thicker. That way the design shows up nicely without the paint seeping under the template. Once the paint dries I then sprayed different coloured mists over the page. You can use any water based mediums for this technique. The acrylic paint will resist them all.
I sometimes wonder why people do resist techniques – couldn’t I just apply the paint over the mists when I am done? In this case, I applied the paint first so it would fall into the background of the page. I didn’t want the paint to look fresh on top of my layers. To help it blend into the background, I then stamped over top of the page using Black Archival Ink. Finally I used the Punchinella stencil with some Gesso.
Here is a close up of the sample I make in the video!
